Wilderness Vertical Rescue – ITRA Rope Technician 2

The four day ITRA Rope Technician 2 course takes up immediately where the Wilderness Vertical Rescue Rope Responder course leaves off. We build on the competencies learned at level 1 and continue to technician level. More advanced, team based techniques with an emphasis on a high angle environment are explored during this four day program.

As with the Wilderness Vertical Rescue ITRA Rope Responder 1 course we will supply all the required equipment for this very detailed course. It should be noted that the ITRA Rope Responder 1 is a prerequisite for Rope Technician 2.

Course Outline
Some of the specific competencies include:-
  • Select, construct and operate lowering & raising systems – high angle
  • Preparing litter/stretcher for high angle evacuation
  • Rope Knot pass on-rope ascend, descend, belay, raising & lowering
  • Select and erect artificial high directional
  • Horizontal highline without reeve
  • Litter attendant rigging and operation – high angle
  • Rope rescue physics – vector forces, fall factors, slope loading, T method
  • Rope rescue – system analysis (whiteboard analysis, critical point, safety factors)
  • Pick off rescue – unsuspended/unsecured victim (i.e. from ledge)
  • Vehicle & deadman anchors
  • Load Releasing Hitches (mariners, radium etc)
  • Rope Improvised harnesses
  • Compound and complex mechanical advantage systems

Successful students will receive an ITRA Record of Learning certificate. The QR code on this certificate allows students to become regular members of ITRA if they choose to.

Course Pre-Requisites and Participant Preparedness
ITRA Rope Responder 1 is a pre-requisite for this course.
The course itself is strenuous and involves a number of intensive scenarios. Participants should be prepared to carry moderate loads into a number of escarpment locations and be self sufficient in regards to adverse weather clothing, food and water.
