The Sm’D, an Ultra-Light Carabiner

The compact Petzl Sm’D asymmetrical aluminium carabiner is great for workers at height looking to reduce weight to a minimum. With the triact lock version weighing in at just 55g and small enough to fit comfortably in your palm, the Petzl Sm’D is still rated to 23kN and gives you a generous gate opening of 18mm.

Other features of the Petzl Sm’D include:-

  • It’s D shape makes it especially suitable for attaching devices like your ASAP Lock or ID’s
  • A fluid interior design limits the risk of having a catch point and facilitates rotation of the carabiner
  • The Keylock system helps to avoid any involuntary snagging of the carabiner
  • The H cross-section ensures an optimal strength/weight ratio as well as protecting the carabiner markings from abrasion
  • There is a hole for connecting Tibloc or Micro Traxion type devices, limiting the risk of losing them
  • Each piece includes a Datamatrix code for quick inspection of the product
  • Individually tested with a three year guarantee
  • They are made in France.
What's great about the Sm'D?

The Sm’D triact version is a great option to add to the stable, but the non-locking version of the Sm’D (also known as the Wall) is a good choice for pairing with a tool lanyard like the Yates Bungee Tool Tether. It’s lightweight and easy to manipulate, even when you’re wearing your gloves, making working with tools whilst on ropes even easier.
