Safety Access & Rescue to host ARAA Technical Workshop and Rope Challenge

Safety Access & Rescue is proud to be hosting the up-coming Australian Rope Access Training Association's(ARAA) Technical Workshop and Rope Technician Challenge as a part of the ARAA's Annual General Meeting.  The three day event will commence at our Lawson Training Facility on Friday the 19th October, with a Technical Workshop and conclude with the Rope Technician Challenge at the same venue.  To find out more about the ARAA's AGM, please go to the ARAA website .

WorkCover Issues Safety Warning

WorkCover has issued a warning about potentially deadly falls after several recent incidents including the death of a man in Newcastle.  The boilermaker was killed after falling 10-metres from a platform while cleaning a ship docked at Carrington.   Five other workers have also suffered serious injuries after accidents across the state.

WorkCover's Director of Operations Peter Dunphy says working at heights is risky.

Voluntary Recall of Omega Pacific Quik-Loks

Omega Pacific has discovered a defect in a certain number of gates used in their 7/16" Quick-Lok carabiners.  The defect could contribute to accelerated corrosion which may affect the strength or lifespan of the carabiner.  This voluntary recall only affects a limited number of Quik-Lok carabiners, please read the full recall notice to find out if you are affected.

International Rope Access Standard Released

The new ISO Code of Practice (COP) for Rope Access, ISO 22846-2;2012 has been released.  The COP for Rope Access sets out a framework for the management of an entire system of work to ensure rope access works can be carried out safely and efficiently.  It also defines responsibilities and minimum knowledge for key staff covering managers, supervisors and operators.  If you would like to know more about the COP for Rope Access, or rope access in general, please contact our helpful staff at Safety Access & Rescue.

Petzl Issues Statement on the Use of the Petzl Shunt

As a measure of precaution, Petzl recommends to NOT use the Petzl Shunt, while towed by a cord, as a back-up device in rope access. A suitable alternative to the Shunt would be the Petzl ASAP.
