Totally New Type of Wire Gate Carabiner

The Rock Exotica BiWire is a totally new type of wire gate carabiner which features an outer wire gate in addition to the normal inner wire gate found on many rock climbing snap links.  The outer gate protects the inner gate and prevents the rope, or other objects, from opening it.  The BiWire can be used as an alternative to a non-locking carabiner when you want extra security; for example when clipping your lead rope and you want to prevent the rope from running over the gate and opening it, as can happen with conventional non-lockers.  Further features of the Rock Exotica BiWire include:-

• the BiWire is easy to open one-handed with a little practice.
• the extra security of the BiWire adds very little weight, only the weight of an extra wire gate, at about 4 gm. This makes the BiWire extremely suitable for light weight wilderness rescue applications where equipment loads must be kept to a minimum. Industrial rope access technicians will also find great advantages in this very light 30kN carabiner.
• the dual wires create a very strong, edge load resistant gate strength at around 7kN.

Please note that the BiWire should not be used to replace a regular locker. As the inner gate is not physically secured by a sleeve as it is in conventional locking carabiners, it could be possible for something to open the inner gate and then it could become unclipped.  So use it as an alternative to a non-locker when you want extra strength and security.
